A door is pivoted on runners sliding in vertical channels 7 on each side of the door frame, the runners being on a horizontal axis lying below the centre of gravity of the door when the door is closed, and a pair of links 11 connect the top of the door to the top of the frame, while the runners are counterbalanced by low rate preloaded springs, as shown compression springs 8, although tension springs may be used.
