Abstract

1,265,791. Pipe joints. HIGH TEMPERATURE ENG. Ltd. 5 March, 1969 [5 March, 1968], No. 10709/68. Heading F2G. A fluid conducting assembly for joining two components and accommodating movement therebetween comprises two telescopic conduit members 11 and 12 and two end adapters 16 and 17 connected to the outer ends of the respective conduit members by ball joints 13, each joint being formed by a ball member 14 on the respective conduit end located in the respective adapter between a pair of spaced nylon-based buffer rings 19. O-rings 18 and 32 provide sealing of the ball joints and the telescopic conduit members. The outer conduit member 12 is provided with a tubular extension 22 defining an annular pressure compensating chamber 46 with the inner conduit member, said chamber being sealed at one end by an 0-ring 27 located in a groove 26 with a P.T.F.E. anti-extrusion ring 28 and at the other end by an O-ring 31 disposed between nylon and stainless steel split rings 36 and 37. A passage 47 in the inner member permits flow through the assembly to enter the annular chamber so that the resultant pressure therein acts in opposition to the fluid pressure of the fluid flowing through the assembly tending to extend the telescopic conduit members 11 and 12. The space between the conduit members to the right of the sealing assembly 31-37 is vented to atmosphere by port 44 and openings 39<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 3 (not shown).
