Abstract

1,202,527. Pipe joints. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS Ltd. 1 Jan., 1968 [10 Oct., 1966], No. 45150/66. Heading F2G. A swivel joint comprises a ball 7 fitting closely within a part-spherical recess in a socket, a tube 8 extending through a hole 9 in the socket wall and connecting with a diametrical bore 12, a passage 13 diametrically opposite the hole 9, a first sealing ring 15 surrounding the passage 13 to limit a fluid pressure zone, second and third sealing rings 18, 19 acting between the socket and ball to define a balancing zone having a fluid connection 21 and arranged so that the resultant forces acting on the ball due to fluid pressure are substantially balanced. The space between the sealing rings 15 and 18 is vented through a passage 23. The lower joint is a modification of the upper joint in which the tube 11 is secured by a screw thread to the ball 24 and the assembly includes a seal 25.
