Abstract

1,265,707. Piezo-electric generators. CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES R.V. 14 Oct., 1969 [29 May, 1969], No. 50320/69. Heading H2A. In an igniter comprising an actuating sleeve 21 slidable on a tubular support 3 for a piezoelectric element 2, movement of the sleeve in the direction A against a spring 24 subsequently releases a locking device between a hammer 15 and the support and allows the spring 24 to drive the hammer into engagement with the element 2. In the inoperative position shown, a ball 18 located in an aperture 25 in the support is held in engagement with a groove 19 in the hammer by a bush 20 slidable between sleeve 21 and the support whereby the hammer is locked to the support. As the sleeve moves in the direction A it carries with it the bush 20 which eventually allows the ball 18 to move out of groove 19 to release the hammer. Sleeve 21 is returned by the spring 24 leaving behind the bush 20 until a further spring 30 returns the hammer to a position in which the ball can reenter groove 19 into which it is then urged by a chamfered surface 20b on the bush. Such movement of the ball then permits the bush to be returned to the locking position by a spring 27. The element 2 is retained in the support and prestressed by a cup spring 10 which also forms a connection between one end of the element and the support. The other end of the element is connected to a U-shaped electrode 5a which extends through an extension 4a of an insulating sleeve 4 and forms a spark gap 5 with a nut 5b on the end of the support.
