Abstract

1,262,450. Ignition systems; timing ignition. MOTOROLA Inc. Aug. 6, 1970 [Aug. 22, 1969], No.38011/70. Heading F1B. A control circuit for a capacitor discharge ignition system of an internal-combustion engine has a generator device 10, 14, 16 driven in synchronism with the engine for producing electrical pulses and a detector circuit including the transistors 22, 24, responsive to the pulses reaching a given level to discharge the ignition capacitor 25 to produce an ignition pulse for operating the engine, the generated pulses reaching the given level in a timed relation to the engine RPM to provide spark advance. The control circuit is connected to the detector circuit and has a first circuit including a diode 114 and capacitor 116 associated with a transistor 100 connected thereto for operating the same to a first condition for reducing the sensitivity of the detector circuit during the initial period from engine starting until the engine speed reaches a predetermined RPM thereby maintaining a substantially constant rate of spark advance during the period and a second circuit including the diode 110 and capacitor 122 connected to the control circuit and responsive to the engine speed exceeding the predetermined RPM to operate the control circuit to a second condition to render substantially full sensitivity to the detector circuit so that the generated pulses reach the given level in a timed relation to the RPM thereby providing a spark advance.
