Abstract

1,262,279. Heat sealing apparatus. LERNER MACHINE CO.. Ltd. 21 Oct., 1969 [21 Oct., 1968], No. 49876/68. Heading B8C. [Also in Division B5] A heat sealing apparatus comprises a pair of sealer bars (7, Fig. 3) movable to sandwich a sleeve of heat sealable material 3 and two fingers 9 insertable into an open end 5 of the sleeve prior to the sealer bars (7) moving to their sealing position ; the fingers 9 being arranged to move in opposite' directions, to extend the end 5 of the sleeve. Each finger 9 is secured to a plate 25 keyed to the spindle 17. A link 29 secured to the lower end of the spindle 17 is connected to the piston rod 35 of a piston and cylinder assembly 37 by a pin and slot arrangement whereby, upon extension of the piston rods 35, the spindles 17 are rotated through 90 degrees until the links 29 engage stops 39, whereupon blocks 13-15 and hence the fingers 9 move apart. Retraction of the piston rods 35 cause the spindles 17 to rotate through 90 degrees until the links 29 engage stops 41 whereupon the blocks 13-15 and hence the fingers 9 return to their initial position. In this manner the fingers 9 may be removed from engagement in the sleeve prior to or after the sealing operation.
