Abstract

1,261,902. Making bearing members. COURTAULDS Ltd. 13 June, 1969 [14 June, 1968], No. 28430/68. Heading F2A. An annular: bearing member is produced by feeding lengths of carbon filaments on to a rotating plate so that they are laid adjacent to one another and radially in annular configuration, then binding the filaments together with a resin and curing the resin to produce an annular sheet of carbon filaments, the filaments being arranged substantially normal to the inner and outer circumferential surfaces of the annulus and being embedded in the resin matrix. The rotating plate may be of a material to which the resin does not adhere, e.g. PTFE, or of metal coated with a resin release agent.
