Abstract

1,261,579. Drawn synthetic filaments. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 9 May, 1969 [10 May, 1968; 12 March, 1969], No. 23770/69. Heading B5B. A drawn continuous filament yarn of polyamide or polyester, e.g. nylon 66 or polyethylene terephthalate, in which the individual filaments have uniform cross-section, an X-ray orientation angle of less than 10 degrees, a tenacity exceeding 9À5 gpd. and an X-ray long period intensity (defined in the Specification) of less than 0À4 optical density units, is made by stretching a drawn yarn having a twist less than 5 tpi. and an X-ray orientation angle greater than 10 degrees, at 200-260‹ C. for 5-120 secs. while maintaining constant tension of 75-98% of the break tension at the selected temperature, the yarn being thereafter cooled under said tension to below its second order transition point. Stretching may be in air, nitrogen or steam.
