Abstract

1,261,537. Furniture frames and joints. K. Q. BAILEY. Nov. 19, 1969 [Nov. 19, 1968], No.54856/68. Heading A4H. A structural member comprises a rectangular piece, e. g. resin bonded plywood, having at least two pairs of transverse slots extending inwardly towards the longitudinal centre line from opposite longer side edges of the piece, the slots extending from one edge being longer that the slots extending from the opposite edge and the width of each slot being substantially equal to the thickness of the piece, each slot extending through the entire thickness of the piece. Two or more such pieces are connected at right angles by engaging a slot in one piece with a slot in the other (the bases of such slots abutting), to form a frame for furniture, a stairway, a room partition, a roof panel, etc., such frame being of stepped form. For a frame of unstepped form, longer slots which extend to the longitudinal centre line are engaged. The length of the longer slot may be a whole multiple of that of the shorter slot, and each pair of slots may extend about a common centre line. The slot of one piece may be engaged with the unslotted part of the edge of another piece. Two pieces may be interlocked at their interengaging slots by a square section dowel.
