Abstract

1,261,106. Rolling. MANNESMANN-MEER A.G. 6 March, 1969 [9 April, 1968], No. 12015/69. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] A rack adjusting arrangement for a rack 2 and pinion 1 of a cold pilger rolling mill comprises a stationary wedge 4 and a wedge 3 movable by a screw 8 engaged with a nut 7 fixed to the wedge. The screw is journalled in fixed projections 9 on the mill housing and can be rotated by engaging a ratchet mechanism with the end 11 of the screw. The screw threads are self-locking. The nut 7 is formed in the head of a bolt (6) Fig. 2 (not shown), threaded in the wedge 3. The adjustment of the rack is necessary to compensate for roll wear and if different pinions are used.
