Abstract

1,215,006. Rolling. LOEWY ROBERTSON ENG. CO. Ltd. 1 Feb., 1968 [28 Feb., 1967], No. 9569/67. Heading B3M. A prestressed rolling mill incorporates roll spacing rods 42 arranged on either side of the chocks 6 of one roll 10, and bearing against the chocks 8 of a further roll 12. The rods are in threaded engagement with housing parts, and are rotatable in unison to vary the roll gap of the mill. The housing parts may either be U- shaped members 38, Fig. 1, or inward extensions of the housings, Fig. 2. Prestressing cylinders 28 may be controlled to maintain a constant roll gap, as described in Specifications 955,164 or 1,100,581. Thus, load cells 52 and 54 measure the load in the rods 42 and the roll separating load. Alternatively, either the cells 52 or 54 may be dispensed with and further load cells positioned between the chocks 8 and cylinders 28.
