An automatic shotgun has a firing mechanism comprising a single release A provided with a return spring 19. The single release A is in the form of a push lever release which is a device actuated by pressure exerted in a direction towards or into the shotgun. A transmission lever B is rigidly connected at one end to the single release A and at the other end to a control lever C which directly acts upon a hammer 12 of the shotgun. The shotgun disclosed is a Breda twelve-gauge shotgun which is of the long barrel recoil type and which comprises a barrel extension 3, a breech bolt 5, a striker 6, a breech bolt locking member 7 and a cartridge loading device which transfers a cartridge from a magazine 15 to the chamber of the firearm.
