Abstract

1,260,876. Centrifugal strainer. CENTRE TECHNIQUE DE L'INDUSTRIE DES PAPIERS CARTONS ET CELLULOSES. 25 Nov., 1969 [29 Nov., 1968], No. 57670/69. Heading B1D. [Also in Division D2] Liquid is evacuated from a rotary machine which has a rotor, the rotor having an outer wall, an inner, filtering wall and a substantially vertical axis of rotation, by disposing water between the two walls by centrifugal force, applying paper pulp, and progressively decreasing the centrifugal force to allow drainage of the water under gravity through drainage means in the lower part of the rotor. At high speed, the water is disposed as in Fig. 2a, and then, with slowing, drainage as shown in Figs. 2b and 2c occurs. The means of decreasing centrifugal force may be a friction brake on the drive shaft. The drive shaft is connected to a motor, e.g. by a belt and pulley drive. The outerwall may be cylindrical, and have an apertured base mounted on the drive shaft, annular radially inwardly extending lips 5, and on annular filtering wall 4, which, when in use, may be covered by a resiliently deformable porous member, which may be patterned.
