Abstract

1,260,217. Cathode ray tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 17 Feb., 1969 [24 May, 1968], No. 8471/69. Heading H1D. [Also in Division C1] A recording tube of the type comprising a thin window 16, Fig. 5A, carrying a luminescent screen 8 backed by an aluminium layer 7 and sealed to an intermediate glass sheet 14 which is sealed to the envelope 2 and which is provided with a rectangular slit 18 narrower than the corresponding slit 12 in the envelope, is characterized by the provision of a wedge-shaped metal screen 20 which extends between the wall coating 19 and the aluminium layer 7. The glass portions 2, 14 and 16 are joined together by bonding layers 15 and 17 which are heated to a high temperature, and the screen 20 protects the phosphor layer 8 from contamination by the bonding material and also prevents the bonding material from flowing into the slits. The slit 18 may be 0À5-0À8 microns wide.
