Abstract

1,028,655. Cathode-ray tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 8, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1962], No. 5234/63. Heading H1D. A cathode-ray tube, having an optical input or output, comprises a fibre-optic sheet supported across an open end of the tube envelope, and overlayed with a flat mica sheet hermetically sealed to the envelope. As shown, an image converter tube comprises fibre-optic sheets 13, 29 supported in rings 10, 26 and overlayed with mica sheets 17, 35, sealed via rings 20, 32 to support rings 10, 26, respectively. Photo-cathode 4 and luminescent screen 16 are deposited on the inner surfaces of the fibreoptic sheets, and a recording film may be placed in contact with mica sheet 17. The invention may also be applied to cathode-ray display tubes and image dissection tubes.
