Abstract
1,192,067. Electron guns; cathode materials and processing. SONY CORP. 6 Sept., 1967 [10 Sept., 1966], No. 40725/67. Heading H1D. [Also in Division C7] A cathode structure comprises an insulating member 4, Fig. 3, provided with a support ledge 11 across which extends a heater element 7 carrying a cathode element 5, the element 7 being connected at its ends to two leaf springs 13 and 14 which apply tension along the length of the element and at right angles to this direction respectively. The other ends of the leaf springs are spot welded to lead-in conductors 15 and 16 which are secured to the insulator 4. The insulator 4 may be provided with a rim 12 which co-operates with a spacer 28 to position the cathode accurately with respect to the front surface of a control electrode 2 in an electron gun for a television picture tube. Cathode materials and processing.-The cathode 5 comprises a metal base 6, e.g. of nickel, on which are superposed three layers each of about 30 microns thick. The first layer is formed by spraying or spreading a compound solution comprising a powder of nickel or platinum, a powdered alkaline earth carbonate and an adhesive agent such as butyl acetate, butyl alcohol, or nitrocellulose. The second layer comprises alkaline earth carbonate and adhesive, and the third layer is the same as the first. After the layers have been applied they are compressed and then heated to about 1000 C. to sinter the outer layers and to convert the carbonate to oxide.
