Abstract

126,018. Hartley, A. C. Oct. 26, 1916. Fire between aircraft propeller blades, controlling and synchronizing.-Relates to guns, the firing of which is synchronized with some moving part which crosses the line of fire as, for example, the propeller blades on aircraft, and consists in providing the firing-pin with external operating mechanism and a stop controlled by the synchronizing means for operating the mechanism. The invention is shown applied to a Lewis gun having a strikerpost d carrying a firing-pin a which extends rearwards through the casing b, and is connected through a spring f with an arm e extending from a bar h also connected with the strikerpost. The pin a and rod h, together with a lever g, l pivoting on the rod hand abutting against the pin a, recoil and return together, and the pin a is pressed inwards to fire the gun by the contact of the arm l with a plunger m only when the latter is advanced by the action of the synchronizing mechanism.
