1,259,982. Agglomerating sulphidic materials. IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP. (N.S.C.) Ltd. 17 Dec., 1969 [9 Jan., 1969], No. 1392/69. Heading C1A. Particulate sulphidic materials are agglomerated by passing them on a moving endless band successively through an ignition zone and a sintering zone wherein fuel contained in the particulate feed material is burned in a free oxygen containing gas, part of this gas being recirculated free oxygen containing gas; no fresh free oxygen containing gas being added to the recirculated gas and the temperature of the recirculated gas being adjusted to within a desired range by adjusting the relative volumes of gases derived from on the one hand the ignition zone and the beginning of the sintering and on the other hand the end of the sintering zone. The feed material is predominantly in the form of sulphidie sulphur and the sulphur dioxide produced by the process may be passed to a sulphuric acid plant.
