Abstract
1,259,454. Welding by pressure; soldering. MORGANITE CARBON Ltd. 15 May, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 24637/68. Heading B3R. [Also in Divisions C7 and H2] A contact brush of carbon and metal carries a sintered layer of metal (e.g. copper or iron or an alloy thereof) to which a flexible lead is attached, the sintered layer being of higher tensile strength than the brush material and the area of its joint with the -brush being preferably greater than that of the flexible lead. The lead may be attached by welding, e.g. pressure resistance welding, or by soldering or by tamping a metal powder in a cavity around it. The brush may consist of graphite mixed with from 25 to 95% of metal consisting of copper with which may be mixed lead, tin, zinc, manganese or silver, or a mixture thereof, up to a total of 16% of the whole mixture. Small amounts of abrasive or solid lubricant (molybdenum disulphide, p.t.f.e., stearic acid, zinc stearate) may be included. This mixture may be sintered simultaneously with a layer of metal powder to formthe metal layer on the brush.
