Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the oxidation resistance, hardness and mechanical characteristics at high temp. of a current flowing jig for metal working and elongate the service life of the jig by making the jig of sintered alloy consisting of copper, cobalt and tungsten carbide.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic material 1 to be worked is contacted with current flowing jig 3, supplied with current, heated, and plastic working under press. jig 3 is made of sintered alloy consisting of Cu; 15W60%, Co; 0.5W10% and the balance WC. The alloy is manufactured as follows: commercially available WC powder is uniformly mixed with about half of a necessary amt. of below 300 mesh electrolytic copper powder and a necessary amt. of electrolytic Co powder. The mixt. is molded under a press. of about 2 ton/cm2 and sintered at about 1300°C in a reducing atmosphere. The remaining copper is mounted on the sintered body and heated to melt the copper, thus infiltrating the body. Jig 3 has superior hardness, mechanical properties and oxidation resistance at high temp., and hence it elongates its service life.
