Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrical contact material with superior fusion bonding resistance and superior transfer consumption characteristics by dispersing In oxide and Bi-Sn oxide in Ag matrix in a specified ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A metal mixt. consisting of Bi 1.5W5%, In 3W8%, Sn 0.5W4% (less than twice as much as Bi) and the balance Ag or further contg. Ni or Co 0.05W0.5% is melted in an inert gas atmosphere and cast in a metal mold. Since this alloy is very brittle, it is crushed to flakes of 1mm or less in thickness with a rolling mill. This powder is heated in air at 700°C for 60hr. to selectively oxidize the Bi, In and Sn, thereby dispersing oxide particles of In2O3 and Bi2Sn2O7. This material is then converted into chips of 0.2mm or less in thickness, washed, filled in a tubular mold, press-molded, and sintered at 780°C. This sintered body is further sintered under press., worked into a wire rod of 3mm in diameter by warm extrusion at 550°C, and finally annealed at 700°C for 1hr. to obtain an electrical contact pin.
