Abstract
Metal compositions for bearings and other purposes are made by coating metal powder particles with another metal by electrodeposition and pressing the coated particles without the intervention of any non-metallic material. Preferably heat is applied either during or after the pressing. The base metal powder may be copper, iron, manganese, nickel, tungsten, molybdenum, antimony, &c., and the coating metal may be tin, cadmium, zinc, lead, copper, nickel, chromium, cobalt, silver, gold, platinum group metals, &c. Products consisting of (1) 88-92 per cent of copper and 8-12 per cent of tin; (2) 60-70 per cent of nickel and 30-40 per cent of copper; (3) 88-90 per cent of copper, 9-10 per cent of tin and 2 per cent of lead; (4) iron and nickel; (5) iron, nickel, and chromium; (6) copper and zinc; (7) copper, zinc, and tin; and (8) copper, zinc, tin, and antimony, are referred to. The pressure may be such that a certain amount of porosity is preserved.
