Abstract

1,259,158. Coated sheet material. FUJI PHOTO FILM CO. Ltd. 10 June, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 29453/69. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions G2, G3 and H1. Electrographic and electrophotographic recording members comprise in order (1) a non-metallic support, (2) a subbing layer, and (3) a recording layer formed from a cotaing composition containing an organic solvent; the subbing layer is formed from a coating composition formed by mixing a solution of a film forming, water-soluble polymer in an aqueous solvent system with an aqueous emulsion of a water-insoluble polymer which is incompatible with the first polymer, has a dry thickness of 0.5-10Á and a surface resistivity not exceeding 10<SP>10</SP> ohm/square at 40% relative humidity and 25‹C, and prevents penetration of the organic solvent into the support. Layer (3) may consist of a photoconductor in a resinous binder (e.g. ZnO/alkyd resin) or an optionally pigmented insulating resin (e.g. polybutyl methacrylate). The sub-coating composition may contain polyol or polyoxyethylene glycol as plasticizer and/or an anionic or non-ionic surfactant. The substrate is preferably paper or a plastics film (e.g. cellulose acetate, polycarbonate, polyethylene terephthalate or polystyrene) and be coated on the back with an anti-curl layer (e.g. casein, gelatin, carboxymethyl cellulose or polyvinyl alcohol). A thin, highly insulating layer (e.g. of epoxy or alkyd resin) may be provided between layers (2) and (3).
