Abstract
1,257,295. Making electrical sockets. AMP Inc. 4 Feb., 1970 [24 Feb., 1969], No. 5320/70. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A resilient socket contact 62 comprises a base part 83 having a plurality of arms 64, 66, 68, 70 extending therefrom, embraced by an annular spring 84 to resist outward movement of said arms from the axis of the socket when a mating pin 14 is inserted. A plurality of socket contacts may be provided on one strip of metal 82 to be housed in a body 2 for interconnecting several pin-terminated wires. Alternative socket contact assemblies are formed from two strips of superposed metal so as to provide two parallel rows of socket contacts side by side and normal to the plane of the strips (Fig. 10, not shown), or back to back and parallel to the plane of the strips (Fig. 12, not shown) each strip of metal contact providing, say, half of the arms for each socket. Suitable bodies for these alternative forms are disclosed each containing, in each pin receiving channel, an insert having inwardly directed lances for engaging the rear of the shoulder (18, Fig. 2, not shown) of the pin to prevent removal of the pin from the socket member. The bodies may be mounted in a rack 4 and may be of epoxy resin with a silicone rubber-seal 50. The socket contacts are preferably of copper with stainless steel springs.
