Abstract
1,256,888. Photoconductive compositions. AGFA-GEVAERT. 30 May, 1969 [6 June, 1968], No. 27045/68. Heading H1K. A recording material comprises photoconductive zinc oxide treated with a compound of formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are H, alkyl, aryl, acyl or a heterocyclic group or substituted forms thereof or R 1 + R 2 represent the atoms necessary to close a ring system; Z is the atoms necessary to close a 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic ring and X is oxygen or imino, with the proviso that at least one of the nitrogen atoms making part of the ring closed by Z carries a hydrogen atom which may be replaced by a cation when the compound is a salt. The formula also includes salts and tautomeric structures. In the specific embodiments R 1 and R 2 are H, phenyl, acetyl or ketobenzodiazolone and Z is -CONR- where R=H, phenyl, butyl, ethyl, benzyl or a thioether or, iminoamido. It is said that the compound partially complexes with the zinc oxide. Untreated zinc oxide may be used additionally. Electrophotographic plates are made by mixing zinc oxide with the compound together with copoly (ethylene/vinyl sulphonyl chloride/vinyl chloride), an alkyd resin, copoly (vinyl acetate/ methyl acrylate/acrylic acid), copoly (vinyl acetate/crotonic acid), copoly (vinyl acetate/ vinyl laurate) or copoly (vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/vinyl alcohol) in an organic solvent and coating the composition on a support of glassine, or conductive paper. A mixture of dyestuffs may be used to sensitize the composition. CdSe or CdS containing BaSO 4 , SiO 2 and traces of Zn and Se may be added to the composition.
