Abstract
1,255,794. Furniture joints. H. P. ZWENNIS. Dec.2, 1968 [Dec. 13, 1967], No.57127/68. Heading A4H. A steel plate bracket 10, Fig. 2, for joining perpendicular structural members 22, 24 comprises two perpendicular leaves 12 bridged by a portion 14, the leaves 12 having axes (16), Fig. 1 (not shown) that interesect to define a plane, and the leaves being inclined at 45 degrees to this plane. Members 22, 24 are wooden lathes with grooves 26, 28, 30 for panels. The leaves 12 abut grooved bevelled surfaces 32, 34 and are retained by screws, etc. 20a extending through holes 20 into members 22, 24. A three-leaved bracket 40, Fig. 3 (not shown) joins perpendicular extruded aluminium structural members such as 70, 72, 74, Fig.7, with grooves 71, 82, 76, 78, 80 for panels or shelves. The bracket leaves 42 are each received in a groove 52 with shoulders 60 to prevent movement thereof and an undercut cavity 54 that receives the shanks of bolts 58 and square nuts (56), Fig.4 (not shown), for retaining the bracket. Exposed bevelled surfaces may be covered by a strip. The structural members may be block-shaped, or of plastics. The bracket may be retained by spikes etc. impressed into the structural members, or by self-tapping screws.
