G. E. HART. INSIDE CORNER IRON.
No. 471,610. Patented Mar. 29, 1892,
mifmzxu. v 11mm fur.
114m/ aaa/zda I Q1; WQML' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. HART, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE STANLEY WORKS,
OF SAME PLACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,610, dated March 29, 1892.
Application filed December 16, 1891. Serial No. 415,232- (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES E. HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inside-Corner Irons,- of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in corner irons or braces for use upon the'inside corners of post-office boxes and other articles; and the object of my improvement is to produce such an iron at a small cost and of superior utility.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my corner-iron; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of .the same, together with a sectional view of one corner of a box to which said iron is applied.
I make my corner-iron of sheet-metal cut to proper form, and perforated, as may be desired, for the insertion of screws or nails in securing the iron in place. It is bent up to form two wings A, which stand at right angles to each other, with an inclined brace-like portion 3 between them, forming a truncated angle at their junction, as shown. The whole is further strengthened and given a neater appearance by the two beads 4, swaged or struck up near the side edges and extending over a portion of one Wing across the brace-like portion and over a portion of the other wing,
said beads being struck from the back or out- In use the iron is secured to the inside cor- 3 5 I ner of the box or receptacle B or in the corner of any base and upright portion, to not only hold the adjacent sides thereof firmly together, but to form a short brace in the corner to prevent the box from racking. The 40 brace-like portion, besides giving increased strength, enables the wings of the iron to set close against the sides of the box, even if the corner is partly filled up with trimmings or other matter.
I claim as my invention- 1. The inside-corner iron herein described, consisting of the two wings for securing the article in place, and the inclined brace-like portion at the corner between said wings, 50 substantially as described, and for the purpose specified. A
2. The inside-corner iron herein described, consisting of the two wings, the inclined bracelike portion at the corner between said wings, 5 5 and the beads 4, projecting from the inside of said wings and extending over said bracelike portion, substantially. as described, and for the purpose specified.
