Abstract

1,255,592. Malt turners. RHEINSTAHL UNION A.G. 7 Jan., 1970 [7 Jan., 1969], No. 852/70. Heading B1C. Malt turning apparatus consists of a wall 4 which sweeps through an annular container holding the malt. The wall carries rakes 35, 36 which loosen the malt, and are also arranged in contra-rotating pairs to direct the material into openings in a front wall 5 leading to bucket elevators 40. The buckets discharge onto a slatted conveyor 42, either passing straight through the conveyor, if flaps 45 beneath it are pivoted down, or being conveyed by the conveyor out of the container if the flaps are horizontal. Rakes 43 level the material behind the wall 4. The space between the walls 4, 5 is cleaned by water jets 7 which flow outwards through the floor and through openings 6 in the inner wall of the container. Further jets (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) under the floor rotate in synchronism with the wall and may be radially movable.
