Abstract

125,494. Archibald, E. B. April 13, 1918 Equipments for carrying purposes.-A soldier's equipment, in addition to the usual shoulder straps, is supplied with a supporting band to pass over the head similar to a tump-line. This headband E is connected to two D-rings D, each having a strap F passing to the belt G and also a strap C passing to a shaped backboard B, made of thin fibre, leather, or other material. The backboard has spring hooks K to carry the pack, a loop M for carrying the trenching tool L, straps N, 0, for carrying the water bottle and mess tin, and a pair of straps R by which a stretcher may be carried, while a strap P, joined on each side to the belt, holds the board in place. The shoulder straps A, also connected to the back board, have two metal D-rings S to which a gas mask may be attached by spring clips. The cartridge belt supports a bayonet H and a trenching-tool handle J as usual. The head band may be used without the back board, the band being connected to the shoulder straps.
