Abstract

1,254,822. Carton erecting machine. AKERLUNO & RAUSING A.B. 3 Feb., 1970 [12 Feb., 1969], No. 5138/70. Heading B5D. A machine for erecting a carton from a blank (Fig. 1), having a base portion (1), side wall portions (2, 3) extending from the base portion (1), corner portions (4, 5, 6) connecting adjacent side wall portions (2, 3) and a marginal flange (7-11) extending from the top edges of the side wall and corner portions, comprises a vertically reciprocating plunger 12 and a mould 13. The mould 13 comprises two opposed bars 27 having notches 28 adapted to guide the corner portions (4-6) of the blank into the desired position, a carton erecting ring 29 and a press seat 33 on which the marginal flange is pressed outwards. The plunger is divided into two portions 19, 20 biased apart by a compression spring 23. The bottom of the mould 13 includes a plate 32 which is depressable against the action of a spring 34 and which abuts against a frame member 14 of the machine when the marginal flange of the erected blank is positioned opposite the top of the press seat 33. Leaf springs 52 clamped between both portions 19, 20 of the plunger 12 ease the marginal flange of the carton outwardly. Prior to being placed on a guide ring 26 for engagement with the plunger 12, the blank is passed through a heating station at which selected portions of the blank are heated. Fingers 30 are disposed immediately below the carton erecting ring 29 such that an erected carton is pulled off the plunger 12 during its ascending movement by engagement of the top side of the out turned marginal flange with these fingers 30. The erected carton is then blown out through a lateral opening (51, Fig. 6) in the die by a jet of compressed air from a nozzle 36.
