Abstract
1,254,644. Fluid reservoirs. GIRLING Ltd. 5 March, 1970 [11 March, 1969], No. 12662/69. Heading F2F. A fluid reservoir 17 and a closure 11 therefor are attached together by interrupted threads, one integral with the reservoir and one integral with the closure, the reservoir and closure each having an integral surface which extends generally axially of the reservoir and closure, which surfaces contact each other with an interference type fit to form a seal between the reservoir and closure. As. shown, the closure is a one-piece moulding of polypropylene and has annular skirts 12, 14, the skirt 12 being provided with lugs 13 and the skirt 14 having a tapered surface 15 to engage a tapered shoulder 20 on the reservoir; a skirt 16 enters the bore of the reservoir to locate the closure. The lugs 13 are passed between ramps 18 on the reservoir and rotation of the closure causes the lugs to ride up the ramps until stops 19 are contacted. In modifications, the taper 15 on the skirt 14 and/ or the lugs or ramps face radially outwardly, or the taper is provided on the peripheral wall of a recess in the closure.
