[Also in Division F2] A control and safety device for a gas heating apparatus comprises two sliding rods 7, 8 coupled to a starting knob 6 of the apparatus so that on starting the apparatus the rod 7 encounters the end of the pivoted element 34 and causes it to rotate and the end 46 of the element 34 to transmit the movement of rod 7 to the rod 16 of the thermocouple device 18. Simultaneously electricity is supplied to the pilot lighting device (not shown) via contacts 25, 27. Movement of the rod 8 causes slide 21 to open the gas admission valve 4 of the pilot light which is locked in position by the latch 33. Provided the pilot light is ignited the rod 16 will not unlock the latch 33. The rod 7 is, however, free to return to its initial position by virtue of pivot points 11, 12, 13. The knob 45 is depressed to shut off the apparatus, and the rod 42 of the temperature limiting device 44 also rotates the rocker 38 to shut off the apparatus.
