Abstract

1,254,312. Making railway vehicles. GLOUCESTER RAILWAY CARRIAGE & WAGON CO. Ltd. 20 March, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 13919/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division B7] The side frame 1 of a railway vehicle bogie is manufactured by casting or fabrication of a main structure comprising two unitary side plates 4 with axle box mountings 2 to provide the required axle spacing and subsequently fixing to the main structure, e.g. by welding or riveting separately manufactured bolster pedestal guides 9. The side plates 4 interconnected by welded steel strips 6, 7, 8 and the side frame 1 has a central hole 5 of horizontally elongated shape in which hole 5, towards its curved ends, bolster pedestal guides 9 are fixed. Each bolster guide 9 is hollow with a guide projection 10 having an aperture (12) from which projects for engagement with a bolster a friction member or friction damping means (not shown) housed within the guide 9. Suspension springs (not shown) are mounted on a platform 6a at the lower edge of the hole 5 to support a bolster when the side frame 1 is in use.
