Abstract

1,254,127. Surgical dressings. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. 23 Oct., 1969, No. 51935/69. Heading A5R. A surgical dressing comprises an impervious wound cover sheet 12 positioned on an absorbent layer 14 which is in turn positioned on an overlapping impervious backing film 16, the absorbent layer 14 extending beyond at least a portion of the edge of the wound cover sheet 12 such that no area of the sheet 12 is more than 0.75 inch from the exposed absorbent layer. The wound cover sheet 12 may have four tabs (Fig. 1) passing over the absorbent layer and attached to an adhesive layer 18 on the backing sheet, or may be of an elongated form (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) with scalloped edges (24) to give a plurality of tabs (22). Protective facings 19, 20 may be provided. The wound cover sheet and backing sheet may be of specified organic polymers. The absorbent layer may be formed of fibres, such as cellulosic fibres bonded together, or be of hydrophilic cellular resin, such as foamed polyurethane.
