Abstract

1,253,174. Aerials. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 20 July, 1970 [23 July, 1969], No. 35008/70. Heading H4A. An aerial comprises reflectors 18, 20 which are located respectively at the top and at the foot of a mast 2. The reflectors are linked by ties 22, 24, 26 and are so mounted that displacements of one are transmitted to the other through said ties. As described, the mast 2 is stayed, and has a triangular support frame 16 at its top which carries the reflector 18. The reflector 20 is rotatable about a fixed centre, and is supported from the ground on frames 30, 32, 34. Both reflectors are plane, and are normally inclined at 45 degrees to the horizontal. A parabolic reflector 28 is mounted on the mast 2 opposite the reflector 20, and has a feed horn at its focus. Plane waves from the reflector 28 are directed upwards by the reflector 20 to the reflector 18, which re-directs them horizontally. If the reflector 18 is tilted because of wind, a corresponding movement is communicated to the reflector 20, so that the reflectors remain parallel, and the waves continue to be directed horizontally. The reflectors 18, 20 may be elliptically shaped, and the reflector 18 may be larger than the reflector 20 and be made slightly concave, to correct wave-front deformation.
