Abstract

1,253,003. Tunnelling. GOSUDARSTVENNY PROEKTNO-IZYSKATELSKY INSTITUT "METROGIPROTRANS".9 Feb., 1970 [8 Feb., 1969], No. 6193/70. Heading E1F. A tunnelling shield for soft loose soils comprises a plurality of partitions 5 each carrying at the working face at least one tool 15 mounted on a telescopic boom 10 which is pivotally mounted to enable the tool to be moved sideways. As described there are two tools side-by-side on each partition, each tool comprising a pair of grab jaws controlled by hydraulic jacks. Each boom is mounted on a platform 6 movable on partition 5 towards the face.
