Abstract
1,252,866. Printing plates. COLUMBIA RIBBON & CARBON MFG. CO. Inc. 28 May, 1970, No. 25779/70. Heading B6C. A planographic printing plate is made up of a base of a solvent-etched synthetic thermoplastic resin, such as polystyrene, and a surface layer which constitutes the printing surface. A hydrophilic layer may be interposed between the base and the surface layer. The base may be in the form of a strip, perforated at its edges so that the strip may be fed through a printing machine or printing plates cut from the strip may be secured to a printing cylinder. In an example a web of etched polystyrene is coated with a hydrophilic composition by weight: Alternatively the latter composition may be applied directly to the etched polystyrene. In either case the coated base is then dried. Printing plates according to the invention may be imaged by printing, and may carry a transfer coating on their rear faces so that a copy sheet, bearing the same image as the printing plate, may be produced at the same time.
