Abstract
1,252,505. Wells &c. VETCO OFFSHORE INDUSTRIES Inc. 8 Sept., 1969 [1 Nov., 1968], No. 44313/69. Heading E1F. [Also in Division F2] An inner casing hanger 10 is supported by an outer casing hanger J and anchored thereto by fingers 59 engaging a groove 60 in the hanger J and carried by a seal 25 closing the space between the hangers. The hanger 10, the seal and fingers are lowered through a marine conductor (not shown) into the position shown by a tool Z. Conditioning fluid is passed down the conductor, the tool bore 20 and the inner casing Y, and up the annulus 21 between the casings, cement then being circulated to fill the annulus. A sealing sleeve 41 is removed from the tool and replaced by a dart (70, Fig. 3a, not shown) which connects tool passages 39, 40 respectively to the bore below and above the dart. Fluid is pumped down the bore to displace a tool sleeve 28 downwardly to deform the seal and fingers. The seal and fingers are carried by a ring 50 attached to the sleeve 28 by pins 52 which shear prior to the final deformation of the seal and fingers. The seal comprises a malleable metal ring 56 which may be enclosed in an annulus of resilient matrial 57. The dart is removed from the well, the tool is rotated to free it from threads 14 on the hanger 10, and the tool is removed from the well.
