Abstract
1,219,722. Wells &c. VETCO OFFSHORE INDUSTRIES Inc. 24 Feb., 1969 [24 June, 1968], No. 9755/69. Heading E1F. In well apparatus comprising casing hangers W, Z supporting casing Y, X respectively, the hanger Z has a part 128 resting on the hanger W and a part 129 rotatable relative to the part 128, the arrangement permitting the casing X to be rotated to the right whilst fluid is passed upwardly around the casing X to clean the interior of the casing Y, or the well bore, in readiness for cementing. The hanger Z, together with a packer assembly 143 and a seat protector 142 is lowered onto the hanger W by a tool T comprising a running string 155, a mandrel 154 and a torque sleeve 147 having a splined connection to the mandrel. Fluid is passed down the running string and upwardly around the casing Y to pass through passage 165 .. 173, and the running string is rotated to effect the cleaning. The fluid is followed by a charge of cement having an upper plug and after cementing the running string is briefly turned to the left and then turned to the right, the connection 190 permitting the running string and mandrel to rotate relative to the part 129 so that the mandrel is disconnected from the part 129 and the packer assembly blocks the passage 165 . . 173. The tool is then disconnceted from the seat protector by twisting and lifting the string upwardly to remove the pins 148 from their slots, and the tool is finally removed from the well. When the seat protector is no longer required it may be removed by a running tool. The part 128 may be engaged by a latch to prevent upward movement of the hanger Z. The hanger W is seated in a casing hanger J and held therein by a latch 17, and the hanger J seats in a further casing hanger supported by a base structure. In a modification (Figs. 8-10, not shown) the mandrel with its threaded connection to the part 129 is replaced by a fitting having lugs engaging the part 129 and hydraulically controlled latches which engage the part 129, the packer assembly being actuated by a separate tool.
