1,252,171. Melamine-formaldehyde laminating resin solutions. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 27 Feb., 1969 [29 Feb., 1968], No. 10457/69. Heading C3R. An aqueous laminating resin solution comprises a condensate of melamine and formaldehyde and up to 20% by weight of the solution of (a) a cyclic acetal of a C 1-5 alkanal with a 1 : 2-, 1 : 3-, or 1 : 4-alkylene glycol or diethylene glycol, wherein each C atom may bear one C i - 4 alkyl radical, (b) a cyclic trimer of a C 1-5 alkanal, or (c) 1 : 4-dioxan. There may also be present up to 10% by weight of the solution of a C 4-9 omega-lactam The resin is preferably obtained by condensing melamine with formaldehyde in 1 : 1-6 molar ratio at 70-90‹ C. in alkaline solution, and may also contain urea or an alcohol, a glycol or an amine. In examples, trioxane, 1 : 4-dioxan or 1 : 3-dioxolane is added alone or with caprolactam and/or toluenesulphonamide to a melamine-formaldehyde resin before or after its formation.
