Abstract
1250998 Super-conductors MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON 31 Dec 1969 [17 Jan 1969] 63588/69 Headings H1A AS and A4D A super-conductor comprises strips of stabilized super-conductors conductively bonded to the external surface of a hollow normally conducting support. A shown, Fig. 1 a tube 1 of Cu or Al has four strips 3 of stabilized super-conductor bonded to its surface by soft silver solder layers 5. Each strip 3 comprises a plurality of super-conductor wires 4, e.g. of Nb-Ti or Nb-Zr alloy, embedded in a normal metal strip, e.g. of Cu or Al. The strips can be manufactured in long lengths without joints but if a joint is necessary the ends are mitred or bevelled and soldered, and adjacent strips are joined at staggered points. The tube 1 may be made up of shorter lengths soldered or welded together and may have a polygonal or circular crosssection. The conductor may be wound to form a coil and coolant is passed through the tube.
