Abstract
1247260 Super-conductors COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 24 Dec 1969 62945/69 Headings H1A A5 A4B and A4D A stabilized super-conductor comprises a tube 1 of normal metal, within the wall of which are embedded one or more longitudinally extending wires, tapes, or strips 2 of super-conductor material, enclosed in a sheath 4 of a strong metal. The super-conductor wires 2 may extend parallel to the axis of the tube or be arranged helically. The super-conductor material may be Nb-Zr, Nb, Sn, Pb or Nb-Ti, the normal metal may be Al, Cu or Ag and the strong metal may be an A1 alloy. The super-conductor wires may be coated with a thin layer of In or Cu. The structure is fabricated in long lengths by extrusion. The internal and external surfaces of the tube may have cross sectional shapes different from those shown. Six of the conductors may be assembled to form a composite conductor, Fig. 2 (not shown).
