Abstract

1337096 Super-conductors COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 3 March 1972 [5 March 1971] 10172/72 Headings H1A A5 A4B and A4D A super-conductive conductor comprises a matrix of material having a high mechanical strength in which are embedded wires each of which comprises a strand of filaments each of which filaments itself comprises a plurality of threads of super-conductor material. A large number of Nb-Ti threads are embedded in Cu to produce intrinsically stable filaments having a diameter of 400Á. Six filaments are arranged round a seventh to form a wire strand, and a plurality of such strands are embedded in a mechanically strong Al alloy. The conductor may have a rectangular cross-section and may be solid or may have a central coolant duct.
