Abstract

1,250,098. Off-shore structures. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'AUTOMATISME. 11 April, 1969 [12 April, 1968], No. 18699/69. Heading E1H. A floating structure includes a platform 10, a hollow cylindrical support 11, a hollow base 12, a chamber 13 for machinery, columns 14, 15 and a weight 16, an inclined plate 17 being mounted on a ring 18 fixed to the support 11 below the water-line 19 so as to prevent the structure drifting due to the action of the swell 20. When the swell travels in direction 21 an opposing force acts on the plate in direction 22. If the direction of the swell reverses the inclination of the plate must also be reversed. Thus the plate may be an annular disc 1 attached by pivots to a ring 2, which is supported by pivots perpendicular to those for the disc, whereby the latter can be inclined in any direction. The disc may be elliptic with its minor axis in a horizontal plane. Alternatively, the plate may be rectangular with its shortest edges horizontal. The plate may be used to stabilize a floating structure pivotally secured to the sea bed, Fig. 5 (not shown).
