Abstract
1,249,957. Catheter retaining devices. W. M. KORTUM. 25 Nov., 1969, No. 57490/69. Heading A5R. A device for retaining an end of a catheter inside a uterus is made of resilient plastics material and comprises a shank 10 with two integral spiral coils 11, 12 each connected at one end to and extending from said shank, a hook 15 at the other end of coil 12 and a loop 14 at the other end of coil 11, said loop and said hook engaging to connect the coils together, and an orifice (10a), Fig. 4 (not shown), in shank 10 to receive an angled end of a catheter 13 which is held in position by a flange at its open end 13a. Fig. 2 (not shown), depicts the device in its free state when the coils 11, 12 lie in a common plane. Catheter &c. introducers. The device is introduced into the uterus by means of a tool (16) depicted in Fig. 3 (not shown), consisting of an outer tube (17) and an inner tubular plunger (18). The device, with coils 11 and 12 connected by loop 14 and hook 15, is deformed so as to be generally linear by being inserted into the outer tube (17) with an attached catheter 13 extending through the bore of plunger (18). The outer tube (17) is inserted into the cervical canal and plunger (18) is then pushed into the outer tube thus ejecting the device into the uterus. The coils tend to regain their natural shapes and thus form a three dimensional entwined anchor 21. (For Figure see next column) The following abridgments are included in this series since the Specifications were, through an error, not allotted to this Group. References to them will be found in the indexes to this volume.
