Abstract
1,133,555. Device for inserting hypodermic needles into the skin. E. VALENTIN. 8 June, 1967 [20 June, 1966], No. 26439/67. Heading A5R. A device for inserting a hypodermic needle into the skin comprises a rod 8 having a needle holder at its bottom end and slidable in a tube 1 having a non-circular aperture at its top end, the rod having a portion 11 of reduced diameter and circular cross-section and being biassed by a spring 19 towards the lower end of the tube. The tube 1 may be provided with extensions 2, 3, extension 3 being longitudinally adjustable. To insert a hypodermic needle in the skin, a needle 20 is placed in the holder and the rod is pulled up and twisted a quarter of a turn to allow the shoulder above the portion of reduced cross-section to rest on top of the tube. The end of the tube is then placed at the desired injection site and the rod is twisted by another quarter of a turn whereupon the rod is pushed downwards by the spring, the needle penetrating the skin. The needle may then be separated from the needle holder, and a syringe attached to the needle.
