Abstract

1,249,757. Making heat exchangers; coiling helices. DENCO MILLER Ltd. 6 May, 1970, No. 21927/70. Headings B3A and B3E. [Also in Division F4] A heat exchange element which comprises a wire coil 3 removably inserted into a tube 4 to act as a heat conductor and fluid turbulator, is made by threading a straight length of a binding wire 2 through a length of the wire coil, securing an end of the binding wire and coil wire in a slot 5 at one end of a rod 1, and then rotating the rod so as to helically wind the coil on to the rod and secure it thereto by means of the binding wire. Simultaneously with or subsequent to this winding operation, the tube 4 is fed at constant speed over the wound wire so that the inner surface of the tube makes dry contact with the coil wire. Finally the free end of the binding wire 2 is tensioned, wound around the rod 1 as shown, and soldered thereto.
