Abstract

1,248,366. Paddle dyeing apparatus. JAPAN EXLAN CO. Ltd. and SENBONMATSU KEZARASHI KOGYO K.K. 12 Feb., 1970 [17 Feb., 1969], No. 6892/70. Heading D1L. Knitted articles are dyed in a horizontal cylinderical vessel 1 having a paddle 4 rotatable about an axis parallel to that of the cylinder and having pipes 13 and 14 at the side of the vessel with holes directed downwardly and towards the sides of the vessel for recirculaing dye from the bottom of the vessel, the vessel being divided into one or mgre chambers by partitions 2 (Fig. 1) and the axial length of each chamber being 1/4 to ¢ that of the width R of the chamber measured in a horizontal plane through the axis of rotation 22 of the paddle 4. 1/6 to 1/4 of the circumference of the circle described by the paddle when rotated by an automatically reversible drive (21, Fig. 1) is below the surface of the dye. Steam ejection pipes 7 and steam heated pipes 8 are provided beneath a perforated plate 6. The pipes 13 and 14 are connected by a valve 18 to a pipe 17 for supplying steam or cold water. An example is given of dyeing an acrylic knitted fabric joined into an endless loop and suspended from the paddle.
