Abstract

A textile web 6 is conveyed by the circulation of dye liquor through a U-shaped tubular vessel 1 having its ends connected by a hinged drive set 2 comprising two concentric tubes 11 and 12 connected at their ends to form a closed annular space 14, the inner tube 12, which may be made up of individual segments, having slots or bores (Figs. 2a and 3 and 4) extending through its wall in the direction of movement of the web. The dye liquor is circulated by means of a pump 9 extracting liquor from outlet 7 and injecting it via heat exchanger 8 into an inlet 10. A deflector plate (25 Fig. 6) and nozzle (26 Fig. 6) injecting dye liquor may be disposed adjacent to the outlet of the drive set. The upper (34) of two switch levers (33 and 34 Fig. 7) when activated by a 'plug' of the web operates valves which inject dye liquor via a backing up ring 37 to exert a counter pressure on the plug, forcing it backwards to operate the lower switch (33) which closes said valves. Thus a 'plug' is shuttled back and forth between switches 33 and 34 until it is loosened. An impeller-rotor (29 Fig. 7) in the vessel is rotated by the passing web and is magnetically coupled to a flashing bulb, the rate of flashing indicating the speed of the web. A sluice (27, Fig. 6) may be used for feeding the web into the treatment vessel.
