Abstract

1,248,330. Electric couplings. THOMAS & BETTS CORP. 17 Dec., 1969 [20 Dec., 1968], No. 61521/69. Heading H2E. An electrical connector 10 comprises a sintered powdered metal body 11 of, e.g. aluminium, copper, or zinc and a wrought metal insert 12 of a similar metal, which has a hole 21 in it for mounting on a terminal. The insert 12 has bars 23 which are inserted in bore 13<SP>1</SP> in the body 11, a shoulder 24 abutting the end of the body, and the body being crimped to hold the insert in position. Insulated conductors are then placed in arches 17 in bore 1311 in the body and the body is again crimped. The sharp edges 25 of the bars 23 pierce the insulation and make connection to the conductors. In a modification, the body is provided with a bifurcated contactengaging portion (38, Fig. 5, not shown) at one end and a bore for receiving an insert (34) and conductor. In a further modification, the bifurcated portion is replaced by a circular bore (42, Fig. 7, not shown) for receiving the bared end of a conductor, around which the body is then crimped.
